Place the desired firmware within the UPDATE folder and rename it "PS3UPDAT.PUP". Create a folder within the PS3 folder called "UPDATE". 
Create a folder called "PS3" on the root of your USB storage device. Remove any disc in the Blu-Ray drive and disconnect the console from the Internet. If your PS3's language is set to English, Brazilian Portuguese, or Turkish you may receive an error message when updating your CFW. If you plan on playing offline exclusively, check out this page to disable PSN to prevent getting banned and OFW updates via the Internet. If you need to install a 3.XX firmware, you will need to first install Rogero 9.99 Downgrader Firmware (or Rebug 9.99 Downgrader Firmware if Rogero doesn't work), and then Rogero v3.7 CFW before installing your destination firmware. If you're downgrading from OFW, you can directly install a 4.XX CFW. If something goes wrong, you can always try installing it from recovery mode. These can prevent you from installing updates. Disable any spoofers before beginning. If the PS3 finds a newer update on the Blu-Ray disc, it will use that instead, and you'll be stuck on OFW! It is also a good idea to disconnect the console from the Internet to prevent hitting the wrong menu item. Be sure to take any disks out of the Blu-Ray drive before installing. Read everything on screen and make sure you are installing the correct update.
